Your daily 6: Super Bowl’s super-tame halftime show, Rapper 21 Savage arrested by ICE, pope makes historic Gulf visit

5 questions about Super Bowl halftime show, from SpongeBob to shirtless Adam Levine

After months of controversy surrounding the Super Bowl halftime show, in which acts reportedly turned down the slot in solidarity with former quarterback Colin Kaepernick, Maroon 5 finally took the stage on Sunday night with Travis Scott and Big Boi. And it was . . . extremely tame.

No, Scott did not propose to Kylie Jenner, despite the very prominent rumor. Instead, he got a brief amount of time onstage, as did Big Boi, while Maroon 5 ran through their list of greatest hits: “Harder to Breathe,” “She Will Be Loved,” “This Love,” “Sugar, “Girls Like You” and “Moves Like Jagger.”

Here are five very important questions we have about the show.

1) What was up with the “SpongeBob SquarePants” cameo?

Confused about the brief “SpongeBob” scene that served as an intro into Scott’s “Sicko Mode”? You are not alone. After the show’s creator Stephen Hillenburg died last fall, mourning fans started an online campaign for “Sweet Victory,” a song from a 2001 episode about a game called the Bubble Bowl, to be played during the halftime performance.

“As a tribute to his legacy, his contributions to a generation of children, and to truly showcase the greatness of this song, we call for Sweet Victory to be performed at the Halftime Show,” reads a Change.org petition with more than a million signatures. And even though the producers just played a clip, it (kind of) worked!

2) Why was Adam Levine shirtless?

Honestly, the better

Ex-Model Marla Hanson mourns NYPD cop who saved her life – twice – NY Daily News

The four roommates finally agreed some boundaries needed to be set, with Hanson their designated spokesperson. “So I called Roth and told him he could no longer just enter the apartment whenever he felt like it,” says Hanson. “He flipped out, became enraged. Not long after we hung up I was sitting on the futon when a shadow appeared over me. It was Roth. He was livid, veins popping in his neck, ranting like a madman. I thought he was going to physically attack me. He screamed that I wasn’t going to tell him when he could enter the apartment he was renting to us.”

Boeing seeing more airplane buyers paying cash, financing than ever before

Boeing CEO: Our global services business has been growing at 12% a year

Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg discusses how the Federal Reserve’s interest rate hikes are impacting his company and the company’s growing global services business.

Growing global demand and the profitability of airlines in North America have pushed Boeing, the world’s largest airplane maker, to increase production rates on two of its most successful aircraft models.

“We’re seeing more customers with near-term demand and in the ability to either finance or pay cash than we’ve ever seen,” Boeing Chief Financial Officer Greg Smith told FOX Business.

MORE FROM FOXBUSINESS.COM

The company will now produce 57 737s a month (up from 52) and will increase production of its 787 Dreamliner to 14 per month (from 12). The U.S. airplane maker has nearly 5,900 aircraft currently on backlog, valued at $490 billion. Over the course of the next 20 years, Boeing forecasts 8,800 airplanes will need to be delivered to airlines.

“When you look at the assets that are in North America today … almost half of that is being replaced with much more efficient … [aircraft] than what they’re operating today,” Smith said, regarding operating costs. “So that’s creating a lot of demand.”

Boeing shares have gained 20 percent year-to-date and are approaching their all-time closing high ($392.30), which was set on Oct. 3, 2018. The stock finished the week at $387.43.

The ramp-up in production also carries a risk that Boeing has experienced before, according to analysts.

No pressure: The SC National Air Guard will patrol Atlanta’s skies for Super Bowl LIII

“This is a mission that’s going on 24/7, 365,” said Lt. Colonel Jeff Beckham, who is a SCANG F-16 Pilot. “Imagine the pressure of being in combat where the fighter is trying to get back on scene to drop some bombs, or there’s weather to deal with or something like that.”

‘Chiberia’: extreme cold in Chicago inspires solidarity and awe

Brian Marchal isn’t afraid of a little cold weather.

As the founder of the Chicago Polar Bear Club, he has been jumping into frigid Lake Michigan every January for more than 15 years now.

But the polar vortex that froze much of the midwest and all but shut down Chicago and other midwest cities this week was too much to handle even for Marchal – a man who had, with about 350 other Chicagoans, taken a chilly dip in the lake just a few days earlier.

“I didn’t even step outside my door yesterday,” Marchal said on Thursday, as the city’s temperatures remained well below zero. “It’s too cold for me.”

The deep freeze began Wednesday, dropping air temperatures here in Chicago to more than 20 degrees below zero and around 50 below with the withering winds. At -23F (-30.5C), the arctic chill flirted with – but didn’t quite hit – the city’s lowest recorded temperature of -27F in 1985. Still, it was undoubtedly historic, plunging the city to its fourth-lowest recorded temperatures on record, temporarily closing businesses, attractions and some services, including mail delivery, and posing a significant safety risk to people here, particularly the city’s homeless population.

But the extreme cold also immediately took its place in the history of this city, whose unforgiving winters are often regarded as rites of passage here. Chicagoans of a certain age are fond of reminiscing about the punishing weather of yore: the Article source: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/jan/31/chiberia-extreme-cold-in-chicago-inspires-solidarity-and-awe-polar-vortex
