Charles Albert Bryant

PRINCETON, W.Va. — Charles Albert Bryant, 51, of College Avenue, Princeton, W.Va., and formerly of Dublin, Va., died Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at Princeton Community Hospital.

Born April 4, 1966, in Radford, Va., he was the son of Robert Wayne “Buddy” Bryant of Dublin, Va., and the late Joyce Sligh Bryant.

Charles was a graduate Pulaski High School. He attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, on a football scholarship and then he joined the United States Marine Corp. He was employed by Bland Correctional Center for 14 years, serving as a correctional officer and then named supervisor of the recreation department.

Charles enjoyed motorcycles and building Corsair model airplanes. He was a member of Johnston Chapel Baptist Church in Princeton, W.Va.

Survivors, in addition to his dad, include his loving wife, Jill Annette McKenzie Bryant; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Carol McKenzie of Princeton, W.Va.; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Dee Dee McKenzie of Princeton, W.Va.; nephews, Asher, Bradley and Carson McKenzie; two uncles, Charlie Sligh and A.J. Sligh; two aunts, Barbara Sanford and Frances Ann Cooper; his boxer, Maggie, and his extended family, Jay Shorter, John Scott Shorter, Doretta Shorter, his co-workers at the Bland Correctional Center and his brothers and sisters by choice, not by birth, which are too many to name.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Charles Albert Bryant are at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 11, at Dublin United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mike McGraw                                        officiating. Burial with military graveside rites follows at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, Va.

Family and friends are serving as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Toys for Tots or other local veterans groups.
