American Airlines will begin testing this summer with the help of Aircell in-flight streaming video as an entertainment option.
This will enable travelers with WiFi-enable devices to wirelessly stream movies and TV shows from an in-flight library. American says the testing will be done on transcontinental service with two of their Boeing 767s. American intends to start rolling out in-flight streaming video this fall, pending FAA certifications.
American advised that pricing has not been determined yet, but will be outlined at the completion of customer testing.
In addition, American is working with Aircell to install, beginning this summer and continuing thru 2012, expand in-flight WiFi service to 50 additional MD80s, 93 Boeing 757s, and its entire fleet of Boeing 737s used for domestic service.
