Iran hopes Turkish Airlines losses mean earlier delivery of Boeing plane

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Iran may soon be receiving the first Western-built jet airplane since 1979,  Iranian state media has reported after claims by industry sources of Turkish Airlines being cash-strapped.

“[T]wo 777 Boeing passenger planes will be delivered to the national flag carrier Iran Air,” IRNA reported on Sunday, citing an unnamed “informed” source.

The initial report by IRNA on April 4 stated the deal was for the Boeing 737 model, and Boeing has not publicly announced otherwise.

Boeing confirmed in an April 4 statement the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement with Iran’s Aseman Airlines with “the intent to purchase 30 Boeing 737 MAX airplanes with a list price value of $3 billion” and provide “purchase rights for 30 additional 737 MAXs.”

Iran would begin to receive the 737 airplanes in 2022, according to Boeing; however, IRNA wrote on Sunday that two of the 777 models, according to its source, will be delivered “to Iran within the next month.”

“The source noted that the Turkish Airlines was supposed to purchase the two 777 planes, but it refrained from doing so,” IRNA wrote, adding that the total figure is 80 passenger planes.

“Since 30 out of 80 passenger planes purchased from Boeing are 777 model, the giant aviation company has announced that it will deliver two of the same model to Iran,” the source added.

Reuters cited industry sources saying delivery of the first aircraft may have been moved up

Eugene, Ore. (KPTV/CNN Newsource) — A pilot’s family is speaking out following a deadly plane crash in Oregon.

The family of three also aboard that plane at the time of the crash was reportedly on their way to visit the University of Oregon.

Bailey miller spoke with pilot’s family, who is remembering him for his passion for flying following the plane crash that took his life.

67-year-old Mark Aletky’s sister, Patricia, is heartbroken by his sudden death.

Aletky was flying a single engine plane from Van Nuys to Eugene before it crashed — killing all four people inside.

In the crash, John Zitting, his wife Karen and their 17-year-old son died.

The pilot’s family says Aletky was taking the Zitting’s on a college scouting trip to see the University of Oregon.

Patricia Aletky said, “Knowing my brother, I know that he would have done everything he could have done to save the plane to save those people even putting them before himself.”

His family says he was an experienced pilot, flying for more than 20 years with thousands of flight hours under his belt.

“He had a love of planes all the way back a popular toys were these model airplanes and he would try and fly them. They were not meant to fly,” Patricia said.

The Oregonian reports that friends and coworkers of the Zitting family remember them as great people.

Aletky leaves behind his wife, three kids and two grandchildren.

Veteran military aircraft call Pueblo’s Weisbrod museum home

Six miles east of Pueblo, a large group of legendary U.S. combat veterans live together under one roof.

They’ve engaged in training missions at home and combat missions abroad. Fought wars on four continents. Saved countless American lives and killed swarms of enemy soldiers that sought to injure or kill their compatriots.

Some of these soldiers even paid the ultimate price — giving their lives in the name of American liberty.

Yet as tragic as it is to consider the price that some of these service vets had to pay, there’s perhaps one bright side: They’re still here, they’re still whole and you can visit them any time you like for just $9.

The assembly of veterans that’s amassed east of town is none other than the one-of-a-kind collection of aviation and military artifacts at the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum, which attracts upward of 7,500 visitors from all over the globe every year.

And although these vets are quite different from the living, breathing soldiers who’ve fought for the U.S. around the globe, the role that they’ve played in defending American lives and freedoms cannot be understated.

“If it wasn’t for the ground troops you wouldn’t need the air troops,” Shawn Kirscht, museum curator said, “But this (museum) just kind of shows the history of the progression of the military.”

Since its inception in 1972, the Weisbrod has amassed its collection piece-by-piece, relying mostly on private and public donations to provide Puebloans with an active portal to visit the past of U.S. military aviation.

And despite its unassuming
