HANGZHOU, May 11 (Xinhua) — Construction of Boeing’s first overseas facility as part of its 737 production system started Thursday in the east China port city of Zhoushan.

The construction will consist of two parts — a Boeing 737 completion center and the delivery center. It is scheduled to be completed in 2018. After completion, the facility will deliver 8 to 10 planes each month, with an annual production of up to 100 aircraft.

Boeing and Chinese aviation manufacturer Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd.(COMAC) will jointly run the completion center, in which flight entertainment systems and seats will be installed in Boeing’s 737 aircraft.

“Today we all see a vibrant, win-win partnership that supports the growth and development of China’s aviation industry and the economy, as well as the U.S. economy,” said Ray Conner, vice chairman of the Boeing Company.

The completion center also provides services such as coating, repairs and maintenance of Boeing aircraft.

The 737 delivery center is solely owned by Boeing.

Boeing and COMAC signed an agreement in October 2016 to set up the

Agro Bio, BrightStar, Stratatech, & More: This Week’s WI Watchlist

Stay current on news from Wisconsin’s innovation community, starting with these recent headlines:

—Agro Biosciences, a Milwaukee-area company whose technology is aimed at identifying beneficial bacteria in order to improve agricultural products, said it was acquired by Church Dwight (NYSE: CHD), the parent company of Arm Hammer Animal Nutrition. According to a press release, the purchase price was $75 million, but could increase to $100 million if Agro Biosciences meets certain performance benchmarks in the future. That would put the deal on the relatively short list of nine-figure acquisitions of Wisconsin-based high-tech companies in the past decade.

—The Milwaukee-based BrightStar Wisconsin Foundation, which invests in startups through an unconventional venture philanthropy model, added three companies headquartered in the Badger State to its portfolio. According to an e-mail from BrightStar spokesman Rod Hise, the foundation invested $200,000 in Madison-based SimpleMachines, which is developing a computer chip designed to increase processing speed and reduce energy usage in data centers. BrightStar also invested $50,000 apiece in Lumanu and Exit 7C; both are based in Milwaukee and participated in the startup accelerator Gener8tor last year.

Art of Flight: Artist, WAAAM help students

“Everything you see in here flies.”

Artist Rod Stuart: www.rodneycstuart…

That’s how Russel Paddock, volunteer at Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum — better known as WAAAM — began his tour showcasing the museum’s antique cars and planes to a group of May Street Elementary Prime Time students.

May Street Prime Time Director Janis Ferrell had arranged the tour of WAAAM as an end to a special art project: Local artist Rod Stuart had led students in the after-school program in the construction of wooden airplanes, and now they were looking at — and learning about — the real thing.

The tour included a look inside the new 45,000 square foot addition — and the planes and autos it holds — as well as a close look at a Model T Ford that Paddock knew quite a bit about.

Not surprising, as it belongs to him — and his mother taught him how to drive it. He’s restored it and takes it out periodically for parades.

He also pointed out a 1917 Curtiss “Jenny,” which will make its 100th anniversary flight this year.

Paddock estimated that WAAAM

Boeing grounds 737 MAX test planes over quality issue with engine

Just days away from the delivery of Boeing’s first 737 MAX to an airline, on Wednesday a newly discovered engine manufacturing problem inflicted a nasty jolt to the jet program, which until then had enjoyed a remarkably smooth, on-time development.

When Boeing learned that metal discs inside a subset of its new LEAP engines could potentially crack, it promptly grounded its fleet of MAXs.

About 25 MAX test and production airplanes are already built and parked at Boeing Field or Renton Municipal Airport. Boeing said the affected LEAP engines on those airplanes are being sent to facilities run by engine maker CFM International either in Lafayette, Indiana, or Villaroche, France, for inspection.

Because some LEAP engines already delivered to Boeing are unaffected by the issue, Boeing said it still intends to go ahead with initial deliveries of the MAX this month.

During extensive flight testing of the MAX jets, which began in January 2016, no problems with the engines were detected.

Still, said Boeing spokesman Doug Alder, “Out of an abundance of caution, we decided to temporarily suspend MAX flights.”

CFM informed Boeing late last week of “a potential manufacturing quality escape with low pressure turbine discs (LPT)” in the engines already delivered, Boeing said.

CFM spokeswoman Jamie Jewell said quality inspectors discovered an anomaly in the process of forging the discs during manufacturing.

“It could lead to cracking,” said Jewell.

She said most parts on the LEAP

1MORE Quad-Driver in-ears Review

If you’ve never heard of 1MORE before, you definitely haven’t checked out our best earbuds under $100 where the Triple-driver in-ears have found a home. Still, you wouldn’t be alone in wondering, “Who the heck is 1MORE?” For the past few years the company has been making some stellar in-ears, but I first heard of them because of a product that isn’t even technically theirs.

They partnered up with Chinese phone (and everything else) manufacturer Xiaomi and designed a few pairs of earbuds for them, which ended up being some of the best budget earbuds around. I got a chance to try out these new Quad-Driver in-ear at CES and was fairly impressed. But I was less impressed with the new $200 price tag, up from the $99 price tag of its predecessor the Triple-Driver in-ears. Is the extra driver really worth a full $100 more? Did anything else improve?

What’s Inside

In the box you’ll get a hardshell carrying case with a magnetic lid, an airplane adapter, cable clip, ¼” adapter, along with five pairs of different sized silicone ear tips and 3 pairs of foam tips.

Build Design

If there’s one thing 1MORE didn’t skimp on when it came to these headphones, it’s build quality. Just like the previous Triple-Drivers, I wouldn’t consider these “cheap”. The earbuds have a metallic finish to them that protects the four drivers inside. But what’s the point of having four drivers in each earbud? Doing so allows the company to tune each

At the dawn of the 20th century, when the world first laid eyes upon Henry Ford’s Model T or the Wright brothers’ bi-plane, it quickly became apparent that travel would never be the same: Innovate Pasadena aims to do the same.

But in order to achieve their full potential these inventions would need a complex system of connectivity. From roads and runways, to airports and gas stations, the journey of modern travel required a quite literal network of infrastructure.

Collaboration is key: Innovate Pasadena’s variety of meetups and events provide the forum for passionate, like-minded individuals to come together and drive towards the future. – Courtesy photo / Innovate Pasadena

Fast forward a century later and the exponential progress of technology has ushered in the Information Age, with seemingly endless possibilities. Similar to the advent of the car and airplane, today’s innovative institutions and companies will also require a form of connectivity to accelerate their growth and progress.

Innovate Pasadena, a non-profit founded in 2013 by Mike Giardello and Andy Wilson was created to fill this role: to serve as a fertile ecosystem that connects the realms of business, academia, and beyond – all to help innovation reach its greatest potential.Innovate Pasadena serves as a facilitator for innovative groups of all sizes to collaborate – whether you are an executive from a national company or a young entrepreneur looking to begin a startup, all
