Model who had genitals burned by hot ramen receives £90,000 …

A model who suffered horrific injuries to her “private parts” during a flight has been handed a payout of almost £90,000 by a South Korean airline.

The woman, who was only identified by her surname Chang, was travelling in business class on an Asiana Airlines flight from Incheon in South Korea to Paris when a flight attendant accidentally spilt instant noodle soup on her.

According to The Straits Times, the incident, which unfolded in March 2014, caused second and third-degree burns to the woman “private parts”, thigh and abdomen. Almost four years on since the incident, the model has reportedly not yet recovered from her injuries.

“Even after years of skin transplant surgery, I cannot fully recover,” she was quoted as saying by news.com.au.

“The burn to the core is also affecting my relationship with my husband. I was also told that it can cause danger if I get pregnant.”

Chang filed a lawsuit a year after the incident, demanding 2m Korean Won (KRW) in damages (£1,340) and claiming it would be difficult for her to recover fully even if she underwent skin grafts for the next 10 years.

The former model also added the aircraft did not have the required emergency supplies to treat her burns adequately and she was forced to use a bag of ice, pain relief tablets and ointment until the flight reached its destination.

Meanwhile, the airline had defended

BRANDY MELVILLE The young women’s clothing retailer Brandy Melville opened on Dec. 22 in the space previously occupied by American Apparel at the corner of Telegraph Avenue and Bancroft Way. Founded in 1970 in Italy by retailer Silvio Marsan and his son, Stefan, the store opened its first location in Los Angeles in 2009, and now operates brick-and-mortar locations worldwide. Brandy Melville has been taken to task over its “one-size-fits-all” merchandising, which appears not to fit all, or even most women, except the smallest and thinnest. (Its website offers many clothes in a Small size only, some also come in Extra-Small or Medium.) Fashioned for teens and younger women in a “California girl” style, the brand attributes its e-commerce achievements to what it says is its global success. Sales people in the store said they were not authorized to divulge any information about the retailer, but one can safely presume that the location was chosen for its proximity to the Cal campus. Brandy Melville, 2305 Telegraph Ave. (at Bancroft), Berkeley 94704. Boeing completing 787-10 flight tests with GE engines – Reuters

(Reuters) – Boeing Co (BA.N) has still to complete flight tests on the newly certified 787-10 Dreamliner with General Electric Co (GE.N) engines, but has finished tests with Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (RR.L) engines, a Boeing executive said on Tuesday.

The U.S. jet manufacturer on Monday said the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration had certified the biggest model of the fuel-efficient Dreamliner for commercial use.

The first delivery, to Singapore Airlines Ltd (SIAL.SI) with Rolls-Royce engines, is due in the first half of the year and will be used on mid-length routes in the Asia Pacific region. United Airlines (UAL.N) is expected to accept the first 787-10 with GE engines in the second half of the year.

“We are complete with all flight testing required for the first deliveries to Singapore and the Rolls-Royce family,” Boeing 787 programme chief project engineer Bob Whittington told reporters on a conference call, speaking from Seattle.

“There is a little bit more testing to be done for the GE-powered airplanes a little bit later on.”

The 787-10 has 95 percent of its parts in common with the mid-sized Dreamliner, the 787-9. The main differences are in the environmental control system, which is larger due to the longer length of the airplane and higher number of passengers, and in the landing gear, Whittington said.

The smaller 787-8 model, the first Dreamliner, has roughly 80 percent commonality with the 787-10 and has been a slower seller as Boeing considers whether to launch

Winter Festival all week in Lambertville and New Hope | Warr

Food, beer, music, exhibits, tours, ice sculpting, gallery crawling, family fun, puppet theater, Karaoke, and shopping extravaganzas are attracting visitors from far and near this week. And did I mention food?

The 21st annual Winter Festival in Lambertville and New Hope began on Saturday, Jan. 20 and it runs through Sunday, Jan. 28. The twin towns connected by a bridge across the Delaware River are celebrating winter for nine days.

Lots of activities are on tap all week, leading up to a big final weekend this Saturday and Sunday. Many events are free; others are ticketed. Visit WinterFestival.net and make plans.

One of the most unusual artists you will find on either side of the river is Barney Stone. And his studio is full of  a mix of glass and kinetic sculptures.

Barney is neither a painter of pictures, nor does he sculpt using the usual materials. Instead, he creates kinetic sculptures that talk, move, and entertain. He is not into glass blowing, but he takes glass to a new sculptural level with fusing, kiln casting and lots of cold working.

Food Notes: Celebrating Scottish traditions

“I take found objects and use arduino to turn them into unique and interactive creations,” said Barney. “They are lots of fun.”

Arduino? It’s the name given to microcontrollers, microelectronic boards and kits employing an open source electronic platform. They are readily available, and Barney’s computing background makes it a cinch to incorporate and bring his kinetic sculptures to life with movement, sound and light. (For more on the

Rustburg resident Bill Wright shows ‘artistic flair’ in Lynchburg Art Club sculpture

Though retired, Bill Wright stays busy on his 80 acres of land off U.S. 29 between Lynchburg and Rustburg. If he’s not welding, he is fixing up old Army jeeps and antique bicycles or looking at stars in his very own observatory.

Wright, 75, worked at Lawhorne Brothers Paving on Lawyers Road for 40 years, where he developed a skill for welding, and never stopped.

He usually builds things like light poles, tables and parts for automobiles, trailers and household structures. Wright can fix nearly anything but remains humble, saying he feels proud of the work he has done but doesn’t feel special because of it.

“It just comes easily to me,” he said softly. “I weld something just about every week.”

This summer, Wright made his first sculpture after the Lynchburg Art Club requested he make a sign for the club, located on Rivermont Avenue. The sculpture was dedicated in October.
