Iranian rescue teams find site, wreckage from plane

TEHRAN: Iranian search and rescue teams on Monday reached the site of a plane crash the previous day that authorities say killed all 65 people on board, Iran’s Press TV reported.

The Aseman Airlines ATR-72, a twin-engine turboprop used for short-distance regional flying, went down on Sunday in foggy weather, crashing into Mount Dena in southern Iran.

The airliner said all on board Flight EP3704 were killed, including six crew members.

The crash of the aircraft, brought back into service only months ago after being grounded for seven years, was yet another fatal aviation disaster for Iran, which for years was barred from buying necessary airplane parts due to Western sanctions over its contested nuclear program, forcing Iranians to fly in aging aircraft.

Press TV said search teams reached the crash site before dawn on Monday. The station said the weather had improved though it was still windy.

The TV broadcast footage of a helicopter joining the search and showed ambulances and rescue vehicles preparing to reach the site on Mount Dena, which is about 4,400 meters (14,435 feet) tall.

Other Iranian news outlets and officials did not confirm that the crash site had been reached. State radio said five helicopters and five drones are active in the search operation.

The site is reportedly at a height of 3,500 meters (11,482 feet).

Some early owners of Tesla’s Model 3 are reporting quality problems. Do buyers care?

The company said in a recent shareholder letter that it will focus on higher profit margin vehicles. Although the company still advertises the $35,000 price on its website, a Model 3 can’t be had for less than $49,000 and, with the Autopilot self-drive system and other options, can easily exceed $60,000. After its earnings announcement and analyst conference call on Feb. 7, Tesla adjusted its delivery timeline for the $35,000 model, pushing it to late 2018 or early 2019.

Girl gets 3D-printed arm thanks to connection through Science City at Union Station

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One metro girl’s life is changed forever with a prosthetic arm 3D printed to fit her like a glove.

FOX4’s Sherae Honeycutt was there as eight-year-old Zadie Wilson got her new arm.

It wasn’t Zadie’s birthday, but with the gift she received it may as well be.

A couple of years ago, Zadie’s family visited Science City, and one of their makers connected them with E-Nable, an online community that helps design and distribute 3D printed prosthetics free of charge.

“Everything we do here is to help educate kids, but to really be making something impactful with our maker space is fabulous,” said Ryan Bell, a Maker Specialist at Science City.

Jaquin Buchanan designs and makes prosthetics through E-Nable as a hobby. Buchanan lives in Colorado, and traveled to Kansas City on a special trip to deliver Zadie’s arm.

He let Zadie make some design choices like the color pink, a rainbow band, and a bedazzled skull and cross bones.

Buchanan works as a software engineer in his daily life.

Zadie’s arm the first prosthetic he’s presented to a child.

“Even though it’s just a hobby, you really are looking for something that’s more fulfilling than model airplanes. You’re looking for something that’s going to help someone else out, and it’s really nice to get that feeling,” Buchanan said.

When Zadie heard that she was getting her new arm her mom says she couldn’t contain her excitement.

“I told Zadie, and she’s jumping up and down running through the house going, ‘I get my arm! When?!’,”

Tri-State Model Flyers Club attracts kids at Ashland Town Center

ASHLAND — Brent Maggard loved flying model planes so much when he was growing up that he eventually became a fighter pilot, flying a F-22 Raptor for the United States Air Force.

He became hooked on flying after his father, Terry, took him to see the Tri-State Model Flyers Club’s planes at the Ashland Town Center when he was 9 years old. Even though Terry himself had been an F-15 Eagle pilot, Brent was the one who taught him how to fly model planes.

Terry wasn’t too interested in the club at first, so the guys in the club taught Brent how to fly. On Brent’s 11th birthday, he took his dad out to the club’s airfield at Paul Coffey Industrial Park in Cannonsburg, Kentucky, put the controller in his hands and taught him how to fly all over again.

“A young person can acquire a lot of knowledge in model aviation because it’s … the same mechanics,” said Lawrence Caines, president of the Tri-State Model Flyers Club. “It’s great for young people, and we need young people.”

Brent, now 27, is currently deployed in the Arabian Peninsula, but Terry stuck with the club after he retired and helps it attract younger folks. One of the ways it does that is by going back to the Ashland Town Center every year and giving beaming kids the chance to try their hand at a flight simulator.

On Saturday and Sunday, kids dragged their parents and siblings over to see the club’s display of several powered, soaring and

Jay Inslee and the Democrats want to hurt you financially

It would seem something is wrong with this sentence: facing a massive increase in tax revenues Jay Inslee and Washington Democrats seek record-level tax increases. Something is wrong, but it’s not a mistake.

Jay Inslee and the Democrats in Olympia want to hurt you. The point of putting you through this financial pain is to blackmail you into supporting the absolutely Holy Grail of leftist, machine politics: the income tax.

Sen. Ericksen says Washington carbon tax is really about an income tax

The income tax is the leftist dream because it is the ultimate power tool. Arrange the system so 49 percent pay taxes, and 51 percent get a free ride. Then you have the basis for a permanent ruling majority. Democrats will have the ultimate business model. It would be a machine where they can use the word games of lawyers to provide tricky exemptions from the income tax for certain groups, while sucking the lifeblood out of others.

Observing Jay Inslee and Democrats

Senator Doug Ericksen joined our show to talk about the $3 billion windfall in revenues that Olympia is on track to receive. Instead of giving citizens some tax relief, they want even more money. To my surprise, the senator agreed with my assessment that Jay Inslee and the Democrats are purposefully hurting people.

This hardly just a theory. Consider this:

Jay Inslee’s energy tax will increase the costs to

Writers’ Bloc: Youthful fun

“Grandpa, is it true you didn’t have television when you were my age?”

“Yes that’s true sweetheart, we didn’t have television. We had never even heard of it. We didn’t have computers, cell phones, iPads, or any of those things.”

“What did you do for fun Grandpa?”

“Oh we had a lot of fun. We played outdoors mostly. There was a large vacant lot close by and we played there. I think most neighborhoods had a vacant lot or two.”

“Was there a play set there like some people have in their yards?”

“No, nothing but dirt and weeds, most of which we kept tramped down. From the time school got out kids started to gather there. The first ones decided what kind of game they wanted to play. There was tag, kick the can, marbles, cork ball, Simon Says, capture the flag, tag or tackle football or scrimmage and many I don’t even remember. My favorite game was two batter work-up.

“There was a large Catalpa tree in one corner of the lot and the challenge was to see who could climb highest. I don’t remember anyone ever falling out of it or getting hurt from it. We collected the beans from its bean pods to shoot with the slingshots we made from old inner tubes.

“In the far corner of the lot we had built up a small mound of dirt to play King of the Hill on.

“Sometimes we’d play with stick model airplanes swinging them around on a string trying to collide with our
