A model runway that is. It was for the final day of the Grand Island Modelers Association’s “Big Bird Fun Fly.”
One dad brought his four kids out to fly Sunday.
“I’m really close to my father, and this was something we shared when I was younger,” said Trey Salter, the president of the GI Modelers Association. “It’s a passion of his and a passion of mine. Even though he doesn’t live in the same state, I can still share it with my family and my children.”
About 35 planes soared through the skies Sunday. People watched the show nearby while enjoying some free food.
Members can come together for support and ask each other technical questions.
The event is a tradition for Salter and his family. He said he hopes he can pass the hobby on to his kids through what his dad taught him when he was their age.
“Some of the planes that my dad has built I have at home, and I can fly them today. It feels as though he’s here with me. He put his heart and soul into the airplane that I’m flying, and we can share that together,”
