Tesla reportedly flies in 6 planes’ worth of robots in latest Model 3 push

As part of its ongoing Model 3 push, Tesla has reportedly flown in six airplanes’ worth of new robots from Europe to California. According to sources familiar with the matter, the deliveries of the new equipment comes amidst Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s initiatives to hit the company’s self-imposed goal of producing 5,000 Model 3 per week by the end of June.

The sources, who spoke under anonymity to Reuters, stated that the deliveries of the robots were done “in a massive hurry.” One of the two individuals who spoke to the publication also noted that the first two shipments have arrived at Reno, Nevada. The robots will reportedly be installed in Gigafactory 1’s battery module production line.

Tesla, as of Friday, has so far declined to comment on the matter.

The practice of flying new equipment from one continent to another is rather unorthodox in the automotive industry. Transport by air, after all, is incredibly costly. Nevertheless, the deliveries of the new robots underscore the urgency that the electric car maker is feeling at the moment, considering its goals

The OnePlus 6 could have been nearly perfect if only…

Best-value phone for price! Undercuts the premium models! OnePlus once again made magic with the OnePlus 6, a phone whose performance-for-value was good enough to snag a rare CNET Editors Choice award.

Here’s the thing, though. The power of OnePlus, a Chinese brand out of Shenzhen, isn’t that it’s crested the pinnacle of mobile design and performance. It’s that the hardware and overall experience of using the handset is the best deal you can buy for features that many people want.

There are objectively “better” phones than the OnePlus 6: devices with longer battery life, more features and cutting edge technology. Where the iPhone X has secure Face ID, the OnePlus 6 has a convenient — but not secure — face unlock feature. Where other phones with glass backs support wireless charging, the OnePlus 6 will power up through the cable alone. And while you can completely submerge top devices from Samsung, LG, Huawei and Apple in water, the OnePlus 6 is merely splash-proof.

We strongly recommend the OnePlus 6 as an elusive Goldilocks phone, that’s no question. It has a good camera with portrait mode, the fastest processor, up-to-date Android and a beautiful design. But there are ways that the OnePlus 6 could be a better phone. Whether OnePlus could afford to keep its pedigree as a lower-cost Android brand is a different

Diana Rhea, Boeing’s longest-serving employee and an early female manager, dies at 96

Diana Rhea loved working and loved Boeing. She combined those loves for 75 years, starting in 1942 as a 20-year-old clerk-typist and retiring last year at 95.

Along the way, she endured the death of a young son and raised a daughter as a single mother. In 1968, she became Boeing’s first female manager in Manufacturing Engineering, supervising a team of up to 40 people maintaining inventory records for airplane parts.

By the end, her work and her life were inextricable. Within weeks of her retirement, Ms. Rhea’s health deteriorated and after a visit to hospital she developed septic shock. For just over a year, her daughter Ann Catherine Ice cared for her. Ms. Rhea died peacefully Wednesday morning aged 96.

“She loved working. She simply felt it was helping her stay physically and mentally healthy and couldn’t imagine not working,” her daughter said. “She felt she had a lot to offer in knowledge and expertise, simply because of her benefit of working in the same place for decades.”

Ms. Rhea became Boeing’s longest-serving employee. In the later years of her work life, Boeing made accommodations to allow her to keep working.

Diana Rhea is shown circled in this photo of the 5,000th B-17 being rolled out of Boeing’s Plant 2 in Seattle on May 14, 1944. (Boeing)

NTSB: Fast-changing serious weather factor in killing Greenacres pilot

EDITOR’S NOTE: This story was initially written May 7, and printed soon after. It was not placed on the web site for several weeks.

A new report on the death of a Greenacres pilot suggests just how much may have gone wrong over the Illinois skies. A shredded wing. Freakishly strong updrafts. And a wing pushed so hard it bent one way, and then another, and may have spun around.

The National Transportation Safety Board’s newest report on the July 2016 crash does not attempt to say how the wreck began. But it confirms that the twin-engine Piper Comanche broke up in mid-air, scattering some pieces of debris a mile away from others.

The only person on the plane, pilot Garry Thomas Bernardo, 58, was killed. No one on the ground was injured from the crash, which started a fire.

Radar imagery and a computer model suggest the airplane was hit with fast-rising winds. The computer model showed updrafts, called convective available potential energy, capable of pushing upward at a rate of a football field per second. Upward drafts in the area were estimated at 4,207 joules per kilogram, with downdrafts of 1,194. Moderate values are considered 736, the NTSB reported.

A computer model suggested the airplane pitched about 20 degrees up for several minutes, rising several thousand feet and bleeding off airspeed. It slowed to as little as 48 knots, about 55 miles per hour, slower than the airplane’s stated stall speed. The plane began losing altitude and spiralling down, before going
