JetBlue Airways is placing a big bet on Airbus’s newest jetliner.

The carrier is ordering 60 of Airbus’s A220 jets, the freshly re-christened plane formerly known as Bombardier’s C Series. Tuesday’s sale is the first since Airbus took control of the aircraft program last week from Bombardier.

The JetBlue order is valued at $5.4 billion based on list prices, but customary discounts would bring the total down to about $2.2 billion based on estimates from aircraft valuation firm Avitas.

“Plane Bae” was the airplane meet cute heard around the world last week. Unfortunately, like most things that start good on the internet, parts of the story—namely, the perverse exposure of a woman who never asked for extremely public attention in the first place—have turned rotten.

It all started when a Texas actress and photographer who goes by Rosey Blair posted a Twitter thread about witnessing an instant bond between two strangers on a plane to Dallas. The story began like this:

Last night on a flight home, my boyfriend and I asked a woman to switch seats with me so we could sit together. We made a joke that maybe her new seat partner would be the love of her life and well, now I present you with this thread.

Just like an alluring reality TV plot line, the thread was an instant hit and gave hundreds of thousands of people a much-needed injection of sappy positivity. Blair and her boyfriend were immediately invited to appear on the news, and the male protagonist came forward to reveal himself as retired soccer player and fitness model Euan Holden. He made an appearance on NBC’s Today and added the moniker “Plane Bae” to his Twitter bio.

After almost a year of deliberation, Kitsap County has unveiled a draft of an ordinance that seeks to limit drone activity near the five Naval Base Kitsap installations in the county.

Last fall, Navy officials asked the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners to consider crafting such an ordinance, citing concerns of drone pilots who might be trying to illicitly shoot photos or video of sensitive military assets in the county.

“The Navy appreciates the effort in Kitsap County to develop this draft ordinance,” said Naval Base Kitsap commanding officer Capt. Alan Schrader. “As the number of (drone) sightings increase in and around Naval Base Kitsap, this ordinance will allow the Navy and local officials to have the authorities needed enforce and comply with FAA and Department of Defense rules to ensure base security.”

The Federal Aviation Administration banned the flight of unmanned aerial vehicles, commonly known as drones, in the airspace above the boundaries of military installations in April 2017, yet the problem still persists.

This year alone, there have already been 16 drone overflight incidents in the airspace above Naval Base Kitsap installations, according to records recently obtained by the Kitsap Sun through a Freedom of Information Act request.

In a move largely seen as the first response to a trade war that has broken out between China and the United States, Tesla has hiked prices of its Model S and Model X luxury cars in China.

According to a report in the Nikkei Asian Review, Tesla raised the price of the Model S from about $107,000 to $127,000.

On June 30, the Trump Administration announced investment restrictions on Chinese companies, along with 25-percent tariffs on airplane tires, airplane and marine engines, nuclear reactors and parts, industrial dishwashers, boilers, and dryers, among a host of other products.

China retaliated by imposing tariffs on pork, soy beans, and electric cars.

Teslas are the only American electric cars currently sold in China.

China is the largest market for electric cars, and one of Tesla’s primary markets. China accounted for about 15 percent of Tesla sales even before the Model 3 went on sale there, according to Nikkei.

Earlier this year, Tesla announced plans to build a factory in Shanghai after China lifted restrictions on foreign ownership of factories. American businesses had complained that compulsory partnerships with Chinese automakers led to theft of intellectual property.

Tesla has struggled to become profitable, and the company chose not to absorb the 25-percent tariff on its cars.

It is unclear how the price increase may affect sales of Teslas in China.

China’s retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods struck just as one of its biggest meat importers was rushing a shipment from California through Shanghai customs. Now Suzhou Huadong Foods is saddled with a stack of unaffordable American steak.

Only three containers of frozen produce including prime rib and pork loin came through before the new levy slapped as much as 500,000 yuan ($75,000) on each of the remaining half-dozen crates, according to Gong Peng, the importer’s general manager.

“We have no choice. We have to eat the costs,” Gong said in an interview. “We are guaranteed to dramatically lower our purchases of meat from American ranchers.”

Triggering what China calls “the largest trade war in economic history,” the U.S. on July 6 imposed a 25% duty on $34 billion of Chinese imports. Beijing immediately responded with tariffs on U.S. soybeans, meat and vehicles. Suzhou Huadong, which supplies supermarkets such as Walmart’s Sam’s Club in China, is just one of the early victims. For automobiles and whiskey makers to companies along the complex global supply chain that defines modern manufacturing, it is a moment of reckoning as they grapple with higher costs and whiplashes from some of the earlier business decisions.

The ability of tariff-hit companies to weather the conflict may partly depend on the amount of stock they managed to import before higher levies kicked in. But once those supplies run down, they’ll have to absorb the tariffs or pass them on to customers.
