Boeing Delivers First 737 MAX Airplane to Royal Air Maroc

SEATTLE, Dec. 21, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Boeing [NYSE: BA] today delivered the first 737 MAX for Royal Air Maroc, which plans to use the fuel-efficient, longer-range version of the popular 737 jet to expand and modernize its fleet.

Morocco’s flag carrier – which welcomed its first 787-9 Dreamliner last week – will take delivery of three more 737 MAX 8s and three more 787-9s over the next few months as part of its strategic plan to strengthen its operations.

“We are pleased to receive our airline’s first 737 MAX, which will soon be joined by three other airliners from the same family. These new 737 MAX airplanes expand our medium-haul portfolio, which forms the backbone of Royal Air Maroc’s fleet. Our choice of this airplane is in line with our strategy of continuously expanding and modernizing our fleet, and comes just a few days after the announcement of Royal Air Maroc’s invitation to join the most prestigious Oneworld Alliance. This in turn will further strengthen our leadership position on the continent, both for our country and for Royal Air Maroc,” said Abdelhamid Addou, CEO and Chairman of Royal Air Maroc.

The 737 MAX 8 airplanes will build on the success of Royal Air Maroc’s fleet of Next-Generations 737s. The MAX incorporates the latest technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines, Advanced Technology winglets, and other airframe enhancements to improve performance and reduce operating costs. It also integrates engine technology to reduce the operational noise footprint of the airplane.

Dorothy Fletcher steers readers of newest book toward automotive history gems – The Florida Times

With Daytona International Speedway a little more than an hour south, and the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance in the neighborhood, the Jacksonville area has been a minor mecca for mechanical madness for the past century or more.

And these days, when 500 or more classics and exotics show up for Automotive Addicts’ second-Saturday-of-the-month Cars and Coffee at The Avenues mall, and car shows and cruise-ins occur almost every weekend at shopping centers, churches and plain old parking lots, it’s obvious that a fair portion of the area is car crazy.

Now former teacher and local author Dorothy Fletcher has delved into the major, and sometimes hidden bits of the city’s automotive history with “Jacksonville on Wheels: A Car Culture Retrospective.”

The 144-page book details the birth of the automobile in Jacksonville, with stories of what drove where and when, as well as the history of auto racing, car dealerships and some car guys and women here. Published in November, the book retails for $21.99 and is full of period and modern photos of Jacksonville’s car history.

It was born when a friend hooked her up with Bill Warner, the man behind the past 22 years of Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, the region’s biggest classic car event held every March in and around the Ritz-Carlton on that Nassau County shoreline

“We have a mutual friend, and he saw one of my previous history books and said, ‘We need to get her to write something about cars,'” Fletcher said. “I thought about it for

For George H.W. Bush, Pearl Harbor changed everything, and World War II made him a hero

George H.W. Bush died on Friday, just a week before the country marks the 77th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor — an event that would change his life and, later, almost end it.

Bush was a high school senior on Dec. 7, 1941. He was walking on the campus of Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., when he heard that the base in Hawaii had been bombed. According to Bush biographer and presidential historian Jon Meacham, Bush wanted to serve immediately.

“After Pearl Harbor, it was a different world altogether,” Bush would recall for Meacham’s biography, “Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush.” “It was a red, white, and blue thing. Your country’s attacked, you’d better get in there and try to help.”

Bush initially decided he wanted to become a pilot — and fast. He briefly considered enlisting in the Royal Air Force in Canada because, as Bush told Meacham, he “could get through much faster.” But Bush was lured by naval service, inspired by the grandeur of the Navy’s power and its reputation

The most talked-about aviation moments in 2018 – WENY

By Maureen O’Hare

Bigger, busier, longer, safer — but not faster.

This was another record-breaking year for aviation. In 2018, we flew more, but safety records were higher than ever.

The world’s longest flight relaunched, between Singapore and New York, and the first ever direct flight took place between Australia and the UK.

We got excited about the Boeing 777X, with its game-changing folding winglets, and the Beluga XL, with its humpbacked shape and smiling whale livery.

We were wowed by the upcoming Jewel addition to Changi’s Singapore Airport, and can’t wait to book our rooms in the retro-themed TWA Hotel at JFK.

Here are CNN Travel‘s highlights from the aviation year.

January

Nearly four billion people flew in 2017, according to the International Civil Aviation Organization, making it the busiest year ever for commercial flights. However, it was also the safest year in aviation history.

Increased traffic doesn’t have to mean a drop in service, either. Latvian flag carrier airBaltic was named the world’s most punctual airline by air travel intelligence company OAG, followed by Hong Kong Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.

Tenerife North, in Spain’s Canary Islands, was revealed to be the world’s most punctual airport, with nine out of ten flights arriving or departing on schedule.

And speaking of departures, January 3 saw the final flight of Delta’s last Boeing 747, which flew from Atlanta to an airplane boneyard in Marana, Arizona. With United Airlines also retiring its 747s, it

A lesson on innocent until proven guilty – Springfield News

The lady clerk stopped my brother and I at the door, “You boys are going nowhere with those model airplanes. You did not pay. I have caught you stealing.” She took us to the manager’s office. She said, “I saw these boys looking at model airplanes in our hobby area. They selected some and then tried to leave without paying.”

I was 11 and my brother was 13. We protested our innocence. We came from a toy store after purchasing two boxes of model airplanes. While we walked along we took the boxes from the bags and threw away the receipts. We were so excited. On a whim, we decided to look at what the drug store might have in their models.

The store manager phoned our mother and reported we were shoplifting. He ordered us to remain in his office while mother was coming over to meet him. It took her 20 minutes to arrive. She told the manager that her boys would not steal and surely a mistake was made.

While waiting for mom, the manager asked the lady clerk if she was sure. She replied, “Yes, I saw them take the boxes from the shelves. I caught them red-handed. “ She was so pleased with herself. Then the manager examined the two boxes of airplanes. He asked another employee to check to see if
