Permanent model aircraft display for Shannon Airport

One of the largest collections of model aircraft in the world has gone on permanent display at Shannon Airport.

It is the personal collection of Limerick man Michael Kelly, who has been collecting the small aircraft models for 60 years.

The 1,500 Diecast aircraft, each a different model from almost every airline across the globe, were gathered over the past six decades.

Shannon Airport is the only airport in the world to have such a collection.

Mr Kelly, who is 67, says he has been fascinated with aircraft since he was a child and has been buying the small replicas for most of his life.

He estimates he spent half a million euro on the collection over that time.

They were being stored at his home but Shannon Airport offered the collection a permanent display area so it could be enjoyed by thousands of people passing through the facility.

How Often Do New Airplanes Have Problems? – Condé Nast Traveller India

In the aftermath of the crash of Lion Air Flight 610, one of the worst air disasters in recent years, many observers are asking: How could a brand-new, state-of-the-art plane from one of the world’s leading manufacturers fall from the sky 13 minutes after takeoff—especially since there were no other obvious risk factors at play?

The plane had been serviced for a technical problem the day before the flight took off, which reportedly involved airspeed and altitude indicators, but Lion Air executives said the matter was resolved, and the plane was cleared to take off the next morning. (In the wake of the crash, Indonesia ordered an inspection of all Boeing 737 Max 8s belonging to national commercial airlines, reports CNN; investigators at the scene will also include experts from Boeing and the National Transportation Safety Board.)

The advanced, fuel-efficient Max model has been flying commercially since 2017, and it’s already on track to be fastest-selling airplane in Boeing’s history—with 4,700 orders on the books, from airlines including Southwest, United, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, and Norwegian. The single-aisle 737 is a workhorse of commercial airlines around the world: it’s been operating for 40 years, and there are more than 10,000 currently in service; a 737 takes off somewhere in the world every two seconds, according to Boeing. “It is a highly

The Strange, Never-Ending Saga of MoviePass

The Pacific Design Center juts out of the ground at the edge of West Hollywood in Los Angeles. Comprising three buildings—one firetruck red, one metallic green, and one a glossy blue that blends into the sky—the structure is sleek, abrupt, and commanding, if also a tad performative and obnoxious. In many ways it is the architectural equivalent to a Chevy Camaro.

Along North San Vicente Boulevard, pillars advertise the buildings’ tenants, a collection of companies that are currently, or once were, at the forefront in the collision of technology and media: Grindr; Whalerock, the company responsible for the Kardashians’ personal apps and Kimoji; and Den of Thieves, the production company behind Taylor Swift’s Reputation world tour; among many others. One company, however, goes conspicuously unmentioned.

I’m here because it’s where I was told I could find MoviePass, the company that in 2018 offered moviegoers a too-good-to-be-true subscription deal that quickly became too good to be true as the app faltered, users were shut out of most screenings, and anyone trying to cancel their subscription was met with a litany of questionable roadblocks, all while the company itself appeared to be very publicly going down in flames. “East Tower, 11th floor”—that’s where Mitch Lowe and Khalid Itum, the CEO and executive vice president of MoviePass, respectively, would be. But after figuring out which tower was the East Tower, and then taking one elevator to get to another elevator, and taking that elevator to the 11th floor, I
