Airplane Art – Aviation photography and the Canon EOS R

Aviation photography and the Canon EOS R and the Canon 100-400L Series Lens

In this series:

Let’s continue my look at the Canon EOS R – this week focusing on Aviation photography

The Brief

As much as I love relying on press images or renderings of planes for articles on this blog – I much prefer having my own content to work with.  Mainly, as I know the full rights to it – but also for knowing where a photo came from.

Therefore a chance to see friends at Manchester Airport, plus a chance to go watching planes is always welcome in this editors eyes.

The Kit

I took the EOS R, along with my glass monster that is the Canon 100-400 f4.5-5.6L Series lens on a trip to the Manchester Airport Ringway Viewing Park (and I strongly advise you go before parts of it are demolished for a premium pay-as-you-use passenger terminal).

In terms of configuration:

  • Canon EOS R
  • Canon RF to EF adaptor
  • Canon 100-400L
  • Sandisk Ultra 128Gb SD Card
  • 1 x Canon LP-6EN

Options:

  • I could had used the 70-200 f4 LSeries lens. Whilst it would be better at some rtasks (for example, aircraft taxing closer than the 100-400 could capture fully), the use case is questionable.

I also carried my 24-105 f4 L with me (as carrying that 100-400 for any amount of time on any camera body

“Youth Day” at Hattiesburg museum focuses on military transportation

“We want some hands-on activities for the children to do to keep them engaged, but then, we also tie it back in to what they’re actually learning about the history of the African-American soldier,” said Vanessa Molden, program and engagement coordinator for the African-American Military History Museum.

‘Happy Death Day 2U’: Jessica Rothe Skydiving Scene Was Added in Reshoots

Jessica Rothe admits she’s a “total chicken,” but her fearless performances in Blumhouse’s Happy Death Day franchise suggest otherwise.

Rothe returns to the role of Theresa “Tree” Gelbman in Happy Death Day 2U, which fuses even more genres to the original’s Groundhog Day-meets-slasher mashup. This time around, Tree must enlist the help of a team in order to free herself from another unexpected time loop. The latest loop presents a whole new set of circumstances, some of which Tree may not want to escape.

The first trailer for writer-director Christopher Landon’s Happy Death Day 2U arrived in late November, and viewers were immediately hooked by a clip of Rothe’s character skydiving to her death –– in a swimsuit. However, if it wasn’t for reshoots, this standout scene never would’ve made it to the big screen.

“I think Chris had the idea a while before, but because of time limitations and budget, I think we just couldn’t do it the first time around,” Rothe tells The Hollywood Reporter. “When the film was cut together and started testing really well, Chris said, ‘Well, let’s go in and get the skydiving one.’”

After Happy Death Day’s run at the worldwide box office ($125 million on a $4.8 million budget), most studios would end up micromanaging their latest cash cow, however Rothe says just the opposite regarding Blumhouse: “They kind of gave us free rein. We didn’t have to wait and get a bunch of notes from the studio and then alter a ton

Details Have Leaked About Universal’s Super Mario Theme Park

In late 2018, just before the holidays, details were leaked from a Comcast employee town hall that appeared to show plans for a previously untitled (so far as we knew) forthcoming Universal theme park in Orlando. Blurry — but readable — photos seem to show that the new park will be called Fantastic Worlds, and that it would include a Super Nintendo World. More recently, Nintendo declined to comment on the existence of such a World, which, instead of quashing any rumors, has simply exacerbated them.

Whatever its name ends up being, Fantastic Worlds is going to be just massive — one of Universal’s largest theme parks to date, according to the Orlando Weekly. The leaked documents show a cutting-edge design that structures the park out more like a hub with spokes — a signature invention from theme park rival, Disney — rather than the traditional, circular ‘race-track’ layout you’re probably used to at other (non-Disney) theme parks. No word yet on what the central hub would be, but it sure looks like one of the spokes is gonna be Mario-themed.

Officially, this is all still unconfirmed, but Fantastic Worlds should be opening in the early 2020s. Universal Studios Japan, in Osaka, already has its own Super Nintendo World underway, slated to open in 2020. You enter through a ubiquitous green pipe, which seems to be the way the Orlando version would be designed, too. ‘The Magicians’ Season 4 Episode 4 Recap: “Marry, F…, Kill”

Alright my sweet Fillorian babies, The Magicians is giving our rag tag magical group a little break from the main story this week with some character building side adventures!

“Marry, F…, Kill” starts off with Josh baking condolence muffins for Quentin because the call he received while holding the bad luck bear was about his dad’s passing. Josh and Penny observe the Eliot Monster from the kitchen, who is examining the now black and hardened organ that he ripped from Bacchus last episode. It seems that taking the organ hasn’t returned his memories like he hoped. Margo later approaches the Eliot Monster and suggests that perhaps the memories haven’t returned because he’s in a limited human body and transferring to a different one might help. Unfortunately, the Eliot Monster sees through her ploy to get Eliot back and declines her offer, because even though Bacchus is “donesies” the rest of the gods, and Margo’s friends, still need to be punished and murdered. Josh offers Margo a condolence muffin, which she eagerly accepts. However, for Josh, the room begins to spin and he starts fixating on Margo’s….parts. Later he wakes up from a nightmare in which he murders Margo to find a dead animal in his bed. Turns out the sexually transmitted Lycanthropy he picked up a while ago is kicking in with “the Quickening.”

Meanwhile, Quentin and Julia have a quick conversation in which he tells her about his impending trip back home to sort

After Nearly 20 Years, an Abandoned JFK Terminal Reopens as an Unbelievably Cool Hotel

Amenities galore

The original building will essentially be the new hotel’s command center, and wings have been added to accommodate the additional rooms, which start at $249/night and have been designed to match the original retro 1960s style, down to the vintage rotary phones.

The TWA Hotel will feature six restaurants, eight bars, untold shops (stay tuned for the retailers and merchandise, to be announced within the next six or seven weeks), floor-to-ceiling windows with a view of the runways, a Jet Age museum, a 10,000-square-foot gym, a 10,000-square-foot rooftop observation deck and pool, coffee shops by Intelligentsia Coffee, a restaurant by legendary French-American chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and a handy airtrain to JFK terminals.

There’s a cocktail lounge in a decommissioned jet

The coup de grace is a decommissioned 1958 Lockheed Constellation airplane — “Connie” — the model that broke the transcontinental speed record in 1946, and in the 1950s served as President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Air Force One.

This particular plane, Connie N8083H, began flying TWA passengers in 1958 only to be replaced by a newer model just two years later. After a few more years as a TWA cargo plane and then as an Alaskan bush pilot plane, Connie N8083H was sold off for $150 and by the 1980s — outfitted with a cargo door in her side for airdropping pallets of weed — engaged in a brief, but illustrious,
