The 7 Friends You Should Have In Your 20s To Make This The Best Decade Of Your Life

I’ve always taken advice and notes about life from my favorite sitcoms. The characters from Parks and Recreation taught me how to navigate my professional life, menus full of breakfast food, and long-distance best friendships. The most iconic scenes from The Office have shown me that there is love and happiness wherever you are, and that some relationships are simply just meant to be. And that purple apartment from Friends? It will always stay in my mind as the definition of “home.” What I learned the most, though, was this: The types of friends you should have in your 20s aren’t the people who bring you down or don’t support your dreams. No, they’re the ones who are bound to make this the best decade of your life yet.

Imagine surrounding yourself with people like Leslie Knope, Jim Halpert, and Rachel Greene. Leslie would make sure that you started every morning with waffles and whipped cream, followed by a metaphor of your best qualities; Jim would make you laugh, and remind you to not take life too seriously; and Rachel would be dipping into your closet, looking for the sweater you just picked up from Bloomingdale’s. (She’s more like a sister than a best friend, huh?)

You would constantly feel inspired, loved, and lifted up — even when there’s no seat at Central Perk, or your binders are an unorganized mess. Bring these kind of people — aka, these seven types of friends — into your life for

US Air Force chief on the F-35 ‘quarterback,’ new and improved F-15, and future of light attack

If an adversary ever sees the F-35, I want them to have something show up on all their screen savers that says, “We’re here” — not “I’m here,” but “We’re here.” If they ever do see an F-35, which is highly unlikely, it will never be alone. We’re going be there in space — we’ve been there for a while; we’re going to be there with high altitude, ISR; we’re going be there with the B-21. It’s about to wreak havoc, and there’s nothing they can do about it. And there’s one weapon system that we’ve designed to quarterback, to call the audibles inside enemy airspace, and that’s the F-35. It fuses information, it fuses data. For me, we are not going to integrate the F-35 into the joint team, we are going to integrate the penetrating joint team into the F-35.

On the cusp of flight, Annapolis County man’s 40-year passion project almost airborne

The goal … is to have the final inspection completed and signed off, paperwork completed, aircraft registration marks and permit to fly in hand.

            – Robert Bishop

Sourcing parts and materials from all over North America, Bishop started his multi-decade project. He worked on it everywhere from in his home basement and workshop to a garage in Quebec and a rented shop near the Toronto airport. He assembled the plane in hangars in both Hamilton, Ontario, and Waterville, with his final move to the hangar at the Stanley airport near Windsor, N.S., all following his various family moves.

“In short, the aircraft was built in Quebec, Ontario, and Nova Scotia,” explains Bishop. “This is why it has taken me 40-plus years to get this far.”

Bishop has been a one-man show when it comes to building the aircraft. Since the project was an all-wood structure, he designed, cut, shaped, sanded and epoxy glued on his own. He did, however, cut metal parts to size and pass them on to others to complete the welding jobs.

“Where my knowledge fell short, I relied on several publications, including an old, one-inch-thick bulletin published by the US Departments of Navy, Air Force, and Commerce,” he says.

To make the plane historically accurate, Bishop used books, magazines, sketches, small scale plans, detailed drawings and any other published material he could obtain.

The biggest challenge, he says, was that aircraft power comes from a 1940-1945 vintage seven-cylinder radial engine. This made the parts and accessories

Jeff Bezos just gave a private talk in New York. From utopian space colonies to dissing Elon Musk’s Martian dream, here are the most notable things he said.

Jeff Bezos may be the richest human on Earth, as the founder of Amazon, but his ultimate dreams reside within a relatively obscure company called Blue Origin.

In fact, as Bezos told the CEO of Business Insider’s parent company in April 2018, he liquidates $1 billion of stock a year to fund his private aerospace outfit.

“I believe and I get increasing conviction with every passing year, that Blue Origin, the space company, is the most important work I’m doing,” Bezos said at the time.

On Tuesday, Bezos revisited his grand plans for humanity and gave updates on the work that Blue Origin is doing to help realize that vision. This time he spoke during a private event at the Yale Club in New York City. The Wings Club, a professional aviation group, organized the 30-minute lecture, which was moderated by Jeff Foust, a senior staff writer at Space News.

Their conversation covered everything from Blue Origin’s progress on developing 21st-century rocket engines to backstopping the Mars-settling visions of Elon Musk and SpaceX. Bezos even at one point thanked the crowd for shopping at Amazon and the e-commerce companies it owns.

“Every time you buy shoes, you’re helping fund Blue Origin, so thank you,” Bezos said. “I appreciate it very much.”

Business Insider has transcribed, lightly edited, and highlighted parts of the
