WILLIAM 'KEN' WEIMER

SAVANNAH, GA. – William “Ken” Weimer, originally of Youngstown, and residing in Savannah was born on May 11, 1944, to the late William K. Weimer Sr. and Mary Lynn Burford. He departed this life and went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ, on March 26, 2019.

Ken retired as a passenger service agent from Delta Airlines in 2006, after 38 years of dedicated service. Since then, he has especially enjoyed having more time for his favorite hobbies fishing, model trains, and as a member of the American model airplane Association, he enjoyed building and flying his radio controlled airplanes.

He was an active Christian involved with various ministries in the Columbiana area. He participated in the choir and assisted with church maintenance as he was “Mr. Fixer.” Ken enjoyed traveling, gardening, and the local wildlife until they helped themselves to his garden bounty.

After moving to Savannah, Ken and Sandy became members of the Radiant Life Christian Fellowship. He was also active with the Coastal Conservative Association Group on Skidaway Island, whose objective is to conserve, promote and enhance the present and future availability of coastal resources for the benefit and enjoyment of all. Ken was a gem with many facets. He will be well remembered for his playful sense of humor, always joking with family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, father, mentor and a friend to many over the years.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 50

Rashan Gary Goes No. 12 To The Green Bay Packers

Defensive end Rashan Gary didn’t have to wait too long to become Michigan’s second first-round pick.

Gary went quickly after fellow Wolverine Devin Bush Jr. with the No. 12 pick to the Green Bay Packers

.Some had thought he might slip later in the first round due his shoulder injury and a lack of production at Michigan. However, the Packers didn’t have a problem scooping him up with their first-round pick.

ESPN’s Booger McFarland discussed the concerns with Gary on the broadcast.

“He’s a physical specimen,” McFarland said. “You want him coming off the plane first, he’s on the All-Airplane team, but the production and the athletic ability doesn’t match. I feel like when he gets to the next level, he’s a guy that’s going to need a lot of coaching — not only with technique, but how you can play, how can you use that athletic ability and turn it into playmaking? It’s one thing to be a great athlete, but can you be a great playmaker, because this is a guy that lacks production.”

At Michigan, Gary started in 21 games over the course of three seasons and racked up 135 tackles, 24 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. This past season, he had 44 tackles, seven tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in nine starts at defensive end.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah noted that Gary is a freaky athlete, but didn’t have the collegiate production.

“You see all the traits, it didn’t always translate into the production,” he said on the broadcast.”

Our Towns: On the Road, in the Air

Four days later, at the other end of the same journey, the Cirrus parked at its West Coast destination, the Luxivair terminal at San Bernardino airport in southern California. (James Fallows / The Atlantic)

The guiding principle of this reporting will be the one we developed—city by city, story by story, question by question, surprise by surprise—through our preceding years of travel. The central premise is that the most positive and practical developments in this stage of American life are happening at the local and regional level—but that most Americans have barely heard of those developments except in the communities where they themselves live.

This past February, an extensive nationwide survey from the American Enterprise Institute provided data that matched what we’d heard in interviews. By nearly a 2-to-1 ratio, the survey’s directors (Sam Abrams, Karlyn Bowman, and Ryan Streeter) found, Americans were very pessimistic when asked about the prospects for the country as a whole. But by nearly a 3-to-1 ratio, people in different parts of the country, and of different races and economic groups, said they felt that their own communities were moving in the right direction. It was like the radio host Garrison Keillor’s ancient joke about Lake Wobegon, where “the children were all above average,” but with a real-world edge. People recognized the possibility of progress, despite obstacles and injustices, in their own part of America, but assumed the rest of the country must be doing much worse.

Of course the paralysis

Cirrus recalls Vision SF50 jet

By Peter Passi, Duluth News Tribune

More than 100 Cirrus jets built in Duluth will need some work before they can safely return to the air. The Federal Aviation Administration has issued an emergency airworthiness directive requiring the immediate replacement of an angle-of-attack sensor on the Cirrus Vision SF50 jet.

The FAA said the directive “was prompted by Cirrus reporting three incidents” where the stall warning and protection system or electronic stability and protection inappropriately engaged in proper flight. The first incident occurred in November 2018 and the latest occurred earlier this month.

That most recent event involved Cirrus staff directly, according to a company statement issued Monday that said: “In early April of this year, one of our company pilots experienced the engagement of the stall warning and protection system when not appropriate during a flight at altitude. The pilot followed the published airplane flight manual (AFM) procedures and landed the aircraft safely. Out of an abundance of caution, we immediately began working with the FAA and our internal teams to determine the root cause and began our operator communication process.”

The statement went on to say: “With the benefit of detailed feedback from our company pilot about the April event, we were able to identify service histories that pointed to a probable similar occurrence in November. We proactively and quickly issued two service advisories and one mandatory service bulletin to ensure our operators were up to speed on the issue and to remind them of the proper airplane flight manual

Flyers Trying To Avoid Boeing’s 737 Max Planes Could Unknowingly Book A Flight On One

Consumers who want to avoid flying Boeing 737 Max jets after they return to the skies could still unknowingly book flights scheduled for those models.

Max jets remain grounded in the United States, following two deadly crashes in Ethiopia and Indonesia. American Airlines and Southwest Airlines have removed the 737 Max from their schedules through August and United has removed the Max through July.

But what happens in September and beyond?

A review of flights scheduled on Max planes in the fall found they do not clearly identify which aircraft model passengers will be flying on, according to two primary sources of airline schedule data, Diio Mi and ch-aviation.

However, the online search site Kayak did indicate Max planes would be used for those same flights, as did TripAdvisor’s SeatGuru site.

For example, the airline websites showed:

  • American Flight 1201, scheduled for Sept. 8 from Miami to Boston on a Boeing 737 Max 8, had no equipment type listed, which is unusual because American typically lists aircraft types for its flights
  • For that same day, United Flight 1046 from Houston to Las Vegas, was scheduled on a Max 9, but showed simply a “Boeing 737,” which is unusual because United typically lists the specific type of 737
  • And Southwest Flight 5407 from Fort Lauderdale to Chicago, scheduled on a Max 8, showed a “Boeing 737-800”

For all three, Kayak and SeatGuru indicated Max jets: Max
