How to Fill Seams and Sand Model Airplanes | Good Herald

Filling seams and sanding model airplanes is an important process when building a model aircraft. There are things to consider to ensure natural looking aircraft models.

When building model airplanes, it is important to remove the seams and the joint lines. For most assemblies, crack and gaps become common through fitting. The most common issues pertain to the mating lines and wing roots of both sides of the aircraft’s fuselage.

Materials you’ll need for this project include different grades of sandpaper, a paint brush, sharp hobby knife, a container with some water and a paintbrush. You can also add the Tenax-7R and model putty.

If you’ll be utilizing hazardous materials as you build model airplanes, make sure there’s plenty of ventilation throughout your working space. Check the labels and warnings on the containers of these chemicals.

The first step is to weld the right and left sides with the Tenax-7R. Using medium pressure, hold he two sides of the fuselage together. Then, touch the whole seam with the use of a paintbrush.

When you’re done with the application, gradually add more pressure for the next ten seconds. Then, add another five minutes to let the weld dry up. Use the hobby knife to lightly scrape away excess chemicals.

Model airplanes flying high for a charitable cause – Blackhillsfox

model airplanes were flying high for charity on Sunday.

The Rapid City Propbusters Club was raising money for the Academy of Model Aeronautics Foundation.

Many of the planes could fly up to 400 feet in the air and even had little figurines in the cockpit.

Because of this foundation, many high schoolers have been able to afford technical school.

Rapid City Propbusters Club Event Director Jim Tiller says, “The big buzz word in education now is STEM. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math and we have that in spades. All the things we do are quite technical when you come down to it: the theory of flight, how to do it, how to make it go. Those are very technical issues so we offer a lot of education in that realm for young people.”

The Propbusters have been a part of the community since the 1950’s promoting the development of model aviation as a recognized sport and worthwhile recreation activity.

If you would like to donate to the foundation, visit the Aeronautic Academy’s website.

Model Aircraft

In this article we will take a glance on what is Model Aircraft. Model Aircraft is just representation or integration of original Model Aircraft with the use of modern techniques and tools so that the Model looks exactly similar to original one, in all respects.

Nowadays, designing a Model Aircraft is one of the fastest growing hobby or interest among youths. Model Aircraft can mainly categorize into two main groups flying and non-flying Model Aircrafts. These model aircrafts are sometimes really exact similar in looks, structure with original aircrafts or may be any imaginary structure depending upon the ideas and methods inputted by the model aircraft designer.

The Model Aircraft, model airplanes and Model Planes designer used raw material like paper, thermocol, wood, foam and fiberglass depends on the availability of raw material with them. These Model Aircraft may be classified into static models means (not used for flying) or flying models (may be called as aeromodelling) and no need to say the technique and procedure used to develop such Models Aircraft are totally different.

The most static Model Aircraft, model airplanes and Model Planes built from material like wood, fiberglass, and paper. Such Model Aircrafts can be dismantle and assembled very easily and most popular and attractive among the peoples. The Model Aircraft may develop in different size. Aircraft model approximately ranges from 4-5 feet to the

They’ve Still Got Bucket Lists — In Their 90s

It is one thing to have a bucket list at any age. It is something else entirely to have a bucket list that sends you to college for the first time at 92 — or that sends you on your maiden flight at the controls of a single-engine airplane at 97.

These are the bucket list accomplishments of Cecile Tegler (92) and Mildred “Milly” Reeves (97). And neither of them is done yet.

“I never even thought about having a bucket list,” said Reeves, a resident at Mount View Assisted Living in Lockport, N.Y., who became familiar with the insides of airplanes in her 20s, when she was a small-parts inspector for Bell Aircraft during World War II. After the war ended, she stayed home and had seven daughters — so the notion of ever flying a plane solo grew increasingly distant.

Nor had Tegler, her friend and fellow resident at Mount View, ever created a real bucket list. What she did have, however, was an urge to go to college, since her folks — who had to support their own parents — didn’t have the money to pay for college when she was in her late teens. Both of Tegler’s daughters graduated from college, but she never imagined that she could go to college, too.

Within the past year — because of unusual outreach efforts by staff at

Intricate WWII models built from wood blocks

KLAMATH FALLS — Through a seemingly endless parade of books, movies, documentaries, archival footage and photographs, World War II and its impact still seem so accessible even though its origins began over 75 years ago.

Among the items on display at a new exhibit at the Klamath County Museum of one of the key battles of that war are handmade aircraft models, showing a unique and local perspective of life on the homefront during the war.

While Klamath County sent many of its young men and women off to war, the effort at home was dedicated as well. Timber mills and factories churned out wood products for the war effort at a frantic pace, and the rail lines steadily shipped materials to the front. Families grew victory gardens, bought war bonds, and kids collected scrap metal.

Among those young kids in Klamath Falls doing their part was Chuck Johnson, now 88, who vicariously connected with the epic air battles of the war by developing a passion for wooden World War II aircraft models.

In 1942, Johnson saw a peer with an aircraft model and bought it from him for a quarter. He soon found out that Wes Withrow, owner of a woodshop in the Mills Addition, had made it, and, along
