STOCKHOLM — A fire on Tuesday destroyed a Stockholm home, killing a father and three children and leaving their mother without a home. In the days that have followed, the community has gathered to support the family.

William M. Bugbee, 55, and his daughters Allazza L. Bugbee, age 6, and Livia N. Bugbee, age 5 and his stepdaughter Shaylee L. Baxter, 14, all died in the fire, while Mr. Bugbee’s wife, Carrie L., 36, managed to escape.

“I know this is one of the hardest funerals I’ve had to write,” said Pastor Linda Dunning of Christ’s Church of Hope, who will be conducing the funeral on Saturday. In response to the tragedy, the Rev. Dunning said she had seen “a massive outpouring.”

A Q&A with the Designer behind the LXi Cabin Collection, Flexjet’s New Artisanal Aircraft Interiors

As part of its Red Label program, which provides clients with late-model aircraft and flight crews who are assigned to specific planes, the fractional and charter provider Flexjet now offers the LXi Cabin Collection, a series of more than 20 different cabin designs for the aircraft in its fleet. Ric Michaels, the director of product development for Flexjet, is the collection’s lead designer. He spoke about the evolution of fractional-aircraft interiors, the process of designing the collection, and some of his favorite interiors.

Can you give some background information about the LXi collection?

It’s the, let’s say, tangible component of Red Label. It’s intended to differentiate our fractional and charter products from this industry that is very accustomed to having the same color, the same theme for all aircraft interiors.

Isn’t there a strategy to having a sameness to interiors? They may not excite anyone, but they also won’t offend anyone.

That’s a correct assessment. Let me rewind the calendar, because we were for many years guilty of this as well. I’ve been with this organization 35 years, and we go back to the early days of fractional, the early days of charter. It was a common strategy back then to have all the aircraft look alike on the outside and look exactly alike on the inside. It was probably Marketing 101, where you want a consistent look for the brand throughout the fleet. As the fractional industry matured, it occurred to us that the industry had

Reporter’s Notebook: My final 747 flight

I’ve always been fascinated with aviation. My family, friends and colleagues know I’m an avgeek and proud of it. That fascination started as a kid when our family would take trips once a year. Every time I got on an airplane I was curious about my surroundings. I’d stare at the clouds amazed as houses below me turned in to specks, helping me realize at a young age just how small we are in this world.

My fascination with flight also comes from my father. We’d sit on our Northwest Airlines (NWA) flights and he’d tell me how fast we were traveling, what kind of plane we were on, how many engines it had and so on. His office at work had model planes lined up on a shelf. I remember the stories he’d tell me from his NWA pilot friends about their worldly travels. I was in awe of it all.

Today, I’m obsessed with traveling and seeing what this world has to offer. Most flights I’m sitting by the window taking photos of what’s outside of our metal tube. My favorite moments are seeing beautiful sunrises, sunsets and the geography like the top of Mount Rainier encased in clouds or the moments on a trans-Atlantic flight when you see solid ground for the first time in hours. The places we are able to go amazes me.

I knew the Boeing 747 was going into retirement in the U.S. The aircraft was decades old, not very fuel efficient and too costly to

‘He loved airplanes,’ says sister of Canadian pilot who died in …

Ron Simard died doing what he loved.

Simard, the brother of former Saskatchewan health minister and MLA Louise Simard, was the pilot of a small plane that crashed in Panama City on Wednesday.

Originally from Meadow Lake, Sask., he had been living in Chame, in southwest Panama, with his wife. His two daughters and son live in Canada.

“He loved airplanes,” Louise Simard told CBC. A former lawyer and politician, Simard served as an MLA with the Saskatchewan NDP from 1986 to 1995, and was the health minister for the latter four years. She also served as the president and CEO of the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations and later the Health Employers Association of British Columbia before returning to Regina, where she now works as a freelancer.

“That was a passion of his; he was doing what he really enjoyed…. As a kid, his ceiling at home was filled with model airplanes hanging from it. Ever since he was very young, he was working on model airplanes and then later on real ones.”

Building planes longtime hobby

Ron Simard was an engineer and travelled the world for his work, his sister said. He had lived in Indonesia, England, France, Ireland and the U.S. before settling in Panama with his wife.

Most recently, he had been working as a racing technician with Red Bull Air

Christmas for Kids grants wishes

Santa came early again this year for some of the community’s children at the 32nd annual Christmas for Kids event, held Thursday at the Hot Springs Convention Center.

What started with 40 children at City Hall over 30 years ago has now transformed into a holiday tradition in Hot Springs that provides Christmas gifts to hundreds of children each year.

Christmas for Kids was originally established by former Judge Earl Mazander, bondsman Bennie Hazen, and Earl Gill. Bruce Simpson, who has played the part of Santa Claus for the event for 19 years, said his aunt was a court clerk under Mazander and he became involved with the project through her.

“Then, as Earl left office and my aunt did, too, and as Bennie Hazen passed away, each municipal judge has picked it up since then,” Simpson said, adding that Hazen’s grandson, John Muldoon, and Garland County Circuit Court Judge John Homer Wright have “carried it on.”

“My wife, Sally, sings, and Judge Wright is a musician also. I’ve done a lot of production and sound and stuff, that’s really my forte, so it kind of fit that we were all people that shared the same interest for doing things for others, civic mindedness, and we’re entertainers. And I fit into the Santa suit, so I got the gig,” Simpson said.

Ordinarily, the event will draw 500-600 children, Simpson said, though this year numbers were down because of a conflict with local

Opinion: Why Is California Banning Model Airplanes in State Parks?

Share This Article:

By Steve Gebler

For more than 20 years, my model aircraft club, the Palomar RC Flyers, has enjoyed flying our radio-controlled planes and helicopters on our own field in San Marcos. During this time, we have flown with hobbyists all over the county, as well as in local and state parks where we can share the love of flying with other model pilots and those with a keen interest in the hobby.

Two years ago the district superintendent of the Colorado Desert District of California’s state parks unilaterally decreed that hobbyists, like our club members and myself, can no longer fly within the boundaries of the district, even though most of the land within the parks is either barren desert or wide-open and is comprised of low-population-density areas. We urge the district superintendent to allow our group of responsible model aircraft hobbyists to fly in designated flying sites within the park, the perfect

Tracy: Crash test of 2013 Honda Fit with aftermarket parts ‘monumental’

A Tracy Law Firm crash test of a 2013 Honda Fit on Tuesday might cast some doubt on the claim that aftermarket parts are “like kind and quality” to OEM originals.

A control Honda Fit of the same generation (the 2009-13 Honda Fit are structurally identical) will be tested later this month. But a comparison of the aftermarket part-laden Fit tested Tuesday and a 2009 Fit subjected to the same moderate-overlap crash test last decade shows at least one major difference.

The 40 mph tests crash 2009-13 Honda Fits (which are structurally identical) into a honeycomb aluminum barrier covering the driver’s side 40 percent of the front of the car.

The 2013 Fit crashed Tuesday carried Certified Automotive Parts Association-certified fenders and a CAPA-certified hood; a NSF-certified bumper reinforcement beam; an uncertified aftermarket radiator support, windshield and drivers-side front wheel; and two uncertified aftermarket hood hinges.

Representatives of LKQ, the Automotive Body Parts Association, NSF and CAPA did not respond to a request for comment before the testing Tuesday.

Aftermarket parts are not generally approved or recommended by auto manufacturers for use by body shops. “The original parts used on a Honda automobile are designed and built to work together within their respective systems to provide optimum performance, safety and system integrity,” Honda wrote in a 2010 position statement. “Other parts – whether aftermarket, counterfeit or gray market – are not recommended.
