Pune, India — (SBWIRE) — 04/18/2018 — Commercial Aircraft Landing Gear Market – Overview:

Any pilot would agree to the fact that flying a plane is impossible without proper landing gear. They are the most crucial element of an airplane and act as a supporting system. It is the landing gears that take the entire burden of the aircraft during landing or takeoff. Landing gear is also popular known as nose landing gear or undercarriages. In recent times, there has been a drastic upswing in the demand for safe aircraft parts. Resultantly, the global commercial aircraft landing gear market is gaining momentum.

Over the years planes have proved themselves as one of the safest, quickest and convenient means of travel. But for the “safety” part, appropriate landing gears are of utmost importance. It is these small, insignificant looking parts that make the plane completely safe to be operated.

Presently, the aviation industry is undergoing a lot of development. Due to this, it can be positively exclaimed that the global commercial landing gear market will witness tremendous growth in the coming years. It is anticipated that the industry will generate a profit of around

Southwest’s Fatal Accident Prompts Scrutiny of Engine Inspections

The chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board, Robert L. Sumwalt, said a blade in the engine had broken in two places — where the blade attaches to the main hub and higher up, approximately at the midpoint of the blade. He said that a crack “was on the interior of the fan blade,” and that it was “more than likely not detectable from looking from the outside.”

But Mr. Sumwalt said it was too soon to reach conclusions on the cause of the engine failure. The board, he said, had not yet examined maintenance records, and was still examining the plane and interviewing its crew. He did say parts of the exterior of the plane’s engine had been recovered on the ground in a rural area outside Philadelphia.

The authorities are still finishing up their investigation of a similar incident on a Southwest flight in 2016, when a fan blade separated and debris ripped a 16-inch-long

FAA restricts Boeing 787s powered by some Rolls engines

By Dominic Gates / The Seattle Times

SEATTLE — Airlines flying Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets powered by a particular model of Rolls-Royce engine face substantial disruption after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) placed restrictions on how far from an airport the airplanes can fly.

The FAA directive, effective Tuesday, restricts those planes from operating more than 140 minutes from an airport they can divert to in an emergency, down from 330 minutes.

Rolls says the measure affects 383 engines currently in service. Boeing says that about 168 Dreamliners, a quarter of the worldwide fleet, have at least one of the affected engine models.

The FAA order, posted online Monday, comes after the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) last week ordered additional maintenance checks on Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 “package C” engines after it was found that durability issues with blades in the engine core were worse than first thought.

The FAA imposed the restrictions because blades in the intermediate pressure compressor of the Trent 1000s have been found to vibrate when the engine is operating at high levels of thrust under certain temperature and altitude conditions.

The blade vibration can cause metal-fatigue damage and engine failure.

The FAA said that over the past year there have been several engine failures due to the issue and “numerous reports of engine-inspection findings of cracked blades.”

The safety concern is that should one of the two engines on a 787

Wing of Plane in ERAU Crash Showed Fractures, Metal Fatigue Says NTSB

April 17–DAYTONA BEACH — An initial investigation into a plane crash that killed an Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University student and his flight instructor has found that the left wing, which separated from the plane mid-air, had fatigue cracks, according to a federal report.

In the National Transportation Safety Board preliminary report released Tuesday, investigators provided more details into the April 4 crash that killed ERAU student Zach Capra and Federal Aviation Administration pilot examiner John S. Azma.

The report said that an examination of the plane’s left wing found fatigue cracks on the wing spar — a metal structure that bears the load of the wing. According to the report, the left wing separated from the “fuselage near the wing root” and the fatigue began “at or near an attachment bolt hole.”

Mike Busch, a maintenance expert who is often called upon in aircraft litigation, explained that the findings show that the fractures were at the point in which the wing attaches to the cabin.

According to the report, an examination of the left wing’s main spar “revealed that more than 80 percent of the lower spar cap” exhibited fracture features “consistent with metal fatigue.” Busch said that upper and lower caps are largely what gives the wing spar its strength.

“When the airplane is experiencing positive g-force, then the primary stress is on the lower spar cap,” he said.

Similar cracks were also found in the plane’s right wing at the same point where it attaches to the fuselage, according to the report. The report

Rare Rides: A 1957 Facel Vega Typhoon, for Luxurious People

As I was perusing the eBay listing for the Dual Ghia we previously featured in this series, another blue two-door classic appeared as a recommended listing at the bottom of the page. It’s from the same seller as the Ghia, and is remarkably similar in concept, execution, and customer.

Presenting the Facel Vega Typhoon, from 1957.

Facel started out in the steel business back in 1939, making pressed steel aircraft components and various pieces of steel furniture. Facel was created as a division of larger parent company Bronzavia, whose main business was producing military aircraft. The company’s first venture into the automotive realm occurred in 1945, as companies like Simca, Panhard, Delahaye, and Ford contracted with Facel to produce limited-run coupe bodies.

The end of World War II, combined with technological developments in car production lead to lower demand for Facel’s two main skillsets: aircraft parts and coachbuilt cars. Facel decided it was time to enter the luxury car game and make cars of their own. A luxury car division was started in 1948, as the company continued to develop some bodies for other manufacturers. Notably Facel produced the body for the French market Ford Comète, which it would later develop into the Vega we see here.

The all-new Vega model made its public debut in 1954. Originally using 4.5-liter DeSoto Hemi engines, 1956 saw a replacement 5.4-liter Chrysler engine under the long hood. At the time France imposed a car tax according

Southwest emergency landing at PHL Airport: Here’s everything we know

Updated 11:30 p.m.

A Southwest Airlines flight was forced into an emergency landing at Philadelphia International Airport Tuesday morning around 11:20 a.m. after apparent engine failure caused damage to the plane.

After a window burst in mid-air, a woman was partially sucked out, but other passengers worked hard to pull her back in. The woman, who has been identified as Jennifer Riordan of New Mexico, died on board. Per NBC10, it is the first on-board fatality in the airline’s history.

Pilot Tammie Jo Shults, a former navy aviator, has been hailed as a hero for calmly navigating the plane to safety.

One passenger, Marty Martinez, hosted a Facebook Live video as the plane was descending. General mayhem and confusion are audible in the grainy, low-light recording, which fuzzily shows the plane’s yellow oxygen masks dangling in front of Martinez’s face.”I thought I was cataloging the last moments of my existence,” he later said in an interview with CBS News.

Here’s everything we know about the situation.
