George Studwell Mead of Salvo, Jan. 4

George Studwell Mead of Salvo, North Carolina, passed peacefully at the age of 85 in Nags Head, North Carolina on January 4, 2019. George is survived by his devoted wife Gisele, son Bill, daughters Sally Anne and Elizabeth, brother John, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and a (step) great grandchild.

George was born on August 2, 1933, in Waccabuc, New York to John J.S. Mead and Anzle Butler Mead. He grew up with his two half siblings, Betty Louise and John, and enjoyed a close relationship throughout his youth with his aunts Emma and Francis.

He served in the US Navy as a young man, subsequently attending college at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. George earned his master’s degree in engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and built his career at Raytheon Company in Massachusetts.

George married Gisele (Robichaud) in 1986, and in 2005 George and Gisele retired to North Carolina’s Outer Banks. George generously volunteered his time and talents, serving on the board of the Mead Memorial Chapel, in Waccabuc, New York, and on the North Carolina boards of the Salvo Volunteer Fire Department, Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Civic Association, and the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum.

George loved adventure, discovery, and tinkering with mechanical objects, beginning with his design, build and use during boyhood of an underwater breathing apparatus constructed from household items. His abilities and interests evolved when he fixed radios while serving in

IAF Strikes Hamas Targets after Iron Dome Intercepts Gaza Rocket over Ashkelon

The Israeli Air Force conducted raids against Hamas targets in Gaza following the interception of a rocket over the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon, The Jerusalem Post reported Monday.

Several planes and helicopter gunships hit terrorist positions in a Hamas camp following the shootdown of the rocket early Monday morning.

The IDF released a statement saying, “We hold the Hamas terror organization accountable for all acts of terror emanating from the Gaza Strip.”

On Sunday, an explosive device was flown from Gaza into southern Israel carried by a bunch of balloons. The balloons and drone-like object landed in a carrot field in the Sdot Negev region.

The device exploded, as bomb disposal robot carried it away. No injuries were reported.

The drone-like object had the name of a Gaza engineering school on it but did not appear to be capable of flight.

Following the attempted balloon attack, IDF forces struck two observation posts controlled by Hamas.

“In response to the attempted attack, IDF helicopters targeted two Hamas military posts in Gaza. Hamas will bear the consequences of its actions,” the IDF said in a statement.

Gaza militants float model plane with bomb attached into Israel

Gaza militants used a cluster of balloons to fly a styrofoam airplane carrying an explosive device into southern Israel on Sunday. The plane landed in a field in Sdot Negev Regional Council, near the Gaza border, and was neutralized by police sappers. The process caused the device to explode, but no damages or injuries were reported.

Tesla Gigafactory 3 in China to finish initial construction in summer after groundbreaking event

Elon Musk has arrived in China for the groundbreaking ceremony of Gigafactory 3. Set to be built in Shanghai’s Lingang Industrial Zone, the upcoming facility is expected to produce both batteries and electric cars for the Chinese market. Vehicles that would be produced in Gigafactory 3 include the Model 3 sedan and the Model Y SUV.

Clues about Tesla’s Gigafactory 3 groundbreaking event emerged this weekend, ironically after Tesla’s critics shared information about the route of Elon Musk’s private airplane. By late Sunday (early Monday morning in China), invitations for the event emerged online. Tesla owner-enthusiast @vincent13031925, for one, shared an image of an invitation for the Gigafactory 3 groundbreaking event, forwarded by a Shanghai Tesla Owner’s Group member.

As could be seen in the event’s invitation, guests for the Gigafactory 3 groundbreaking event can check-in as early as 14:30 local time. The event itself is expected to begin around 15:00-15:30 local time.

On late Sunday US time, Elon Musk confirmed his presence in China, stating that he was looking forward to the Gigafactory 3 groundbreaking ceremony. Musk also provided some details on the project’s timeline, stating that Tesla is aiming to complete the facility’s initial construction this summer, followed by Model 3 production beginning at the end of the year. More Deadly Toys from Hamas

Hamas officials have apparently decided to return to the toy chest to find another weapon as effective as the so-called “terror kites” that have caused so much damage to Israeli property during weekly riots along the Israel-Gaza Strip border since March. Seemingly in line with the irony of a child’s toy proving to be one of the most difficult of weapons to defeat, a model airplane was used to deliver an explosive payload from Gaza into Israeli territory on Sunday. The toy made of Styrofoam with lift provided by a large cluster of helium balloons landed in a field where its lethal payload was neutralized by police sappers with no injuries or damage reported. In retaliation, the Israeli military sent an attach helicopter into action. The Iron Dome system also intercepted a missile from Gaza.  Recently, another balloon-propelled explosive device landed in close proximity to a kindergarten.
