Developing countries should not be liable for emissions ‘accumulated throughout history’, key UN development forum hears

“As a representative of [the] aviation industry, we believe that it is very important to advance the ‘climate action’ of the Sustainable Development Goals [SDGs], and implement the Paris Agreement”, Zhao Dong said at Friday’s Discussion on SDG 13, climate action, citing that as the reason why two years ago he signed an agreement with the UN to make Xiamen “the first airlines in the world to support the SDGs”.

With the adoption of the historic 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change, world leaders agreed on an action blueprint to promote well-being and dignity for all on a healthy planet.

As climate change unfolds globally, temperature shifts, seasonal changes and increasingly extreme weather events threaten this vision.

With climate action intrinsically linked across all spheres of life on Earth, SDG 13 is fundamental in achieving all the other SDGs. Therefore, strategically increasing climate action through the Paris Agreement and 2030 Agenda and managing trade-offs would be synergistically decisive for achieving both agendas.

Aviation impact

The impacts of climate change, including extreme weather events, present challenges for travel and the aviation industry.

“I believe” Mr. Zhao stated, that “to reduce aviation emission globally, we must follow the guidance of the UNFCCC [UN Framework Convention on Climate Change] and

HAROLD WALTERS: Flying Ace: Errol’s Gander Adventure

Perhaps feeling that the Sisters Fate are yanking the kite strings of my destiny as I scribble is due to some odd convergence of my life’s ley lines.
Get this.

A century ago, when I was an itinerant scholar, I frequently flew from the wilds of Western Labrador en route to St. John’s, Newfoundland. It wasn’t unusual for circumstances — nasty weather, faulty airplane parts — to require the flights I travelled on to pitch, and terminate, in Gander, the erstwhile Crossroads of the World.

Recently, I remarked on the anthropomorphic yarn of a goose from Gander — Commander Gander — visiting New York City.

This weekend Missus is in Gander having a high old time at a Women’s Institute convention …

… and kinda like that young buddy in the Christmas movie, I’m home alone with Errol, the mouse from Beachy Cove Drung. I’ve been reading Errol’s second adventure story and reflecting on the significance of its appearance in my life, because — and get this also — the book’s title is Flying Ace: Errol’s Gander Adventure.

Gander! For frig sake.

Flying Ace [Breakwater Books] takes Errol not only to Gander, but also to the dangerous skies of the Second World War.

Wait a minute. As Granny habitually said, I’m getting before my story.

First things first. Errol gets in touch with a young girl named Natasha who he meets while she is flying her airplane around the garden.

Not a real airplane, of course. Natasha is tearing around with a model Lockheed Hudson bomber stuck up sky

Brazilian Embraer presents new airplane in Macau aimed at conquering the Asian market

Brazilian manufacturer Embraer, the leader in regional flights aircraft segment, presented in Macau its new TechLion plane, said to be more efficient and silent and intended to strengthen its presence in the Asian market.

It was in the Chinese special administrative region that the new model E-195-E2 held the second stop of a world demonstration, which started Monday in Xiamen, in China’s southeast coast, followed later to more countries in the Asia Pacific region.

“We expect the current airlines and those interested in operating in Macao to understand the advantage that this aircraft can bring to this market,” Embraer Vice President of Sales and Marketing for China, Guo Qing, told reporters.

The largest commercial aircraft ever built by Embraer, with a capacity of up to 146 seats and an autonomy of 4,800 kilometers, aims to help Macau explore the secondary market by increasing connections to smaller cities, he said.

“This is exactly what Macau needs to expand its air network to secondary and tertiary cities,” he said, noting that currently, more than 150 aircraft operate in the city.

According to Guo Qing, the continuous increase in routes and new airlines aligns with the territory’s ambition to become “not only the gaming capital of the world, but a world center of tourism and leisure”, also contributing to the integration of the city in the Greater Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau region.

Compared to the previous model, the E-195-E2 produces 65 per cent less noise and consumes 10 per cent less fuel.

Although no local airline, including Air Macau, has expressed an

Air Force Magazine

Boeing, with partner Saab, made a calculated investment and landed the Air Force’s T-X Trainer contract worth upward of $9.2 billion. Photo: Eric Shindelbower/Boeing

Boeing bet big on the T-X Advanced Trainer competition: The company put a lot of its own money on the line and counted on new design and manufacturing technologies to win the contract with an all-new aircraft, even as the Air Force pressed for a low-risk, off-the-shelf approach. The company also viewed T-X as a proving ground for a design and development approach it could apply to future programs. “The risk was super high,” said Boeing Vice President  and T-X Program Manager Steve Parker.

“If we hadn’t met our own schedule, if we hadn’t met our own design reviews and quality, if the software wasn’t mature, and we couldn’t fly those test points,” Parker said, there would have been “no point submitting a proposal.”

He added, “You can’t game the system. It’s got to be mature.”

Just how much Boeing invested in the T-X isn’t clear. Company sources suggest the amount exceeded $100 million. The payoff could be huge, though. Last fall the Air Force signed Boeing, and its partner Saab, to a contract potentially worth $9.2 billion, not counting variants the service could order for other roles, such as companion trainer, aggressor, or light fighter. Boeing sees a market for 2,000 of the aircraft, including

Everything we know about Trump’s connection to financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was charged with sex trafficking

New York financier Jeffrey Epstein appeared in court Monday after his arrest Saturday night on charges of sex trafficking of minors and conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of minors. He pleaded not guilty.

32-Year-Old Delta Plane Makes Emergency Landing After Failing Engine Glowed Orange Mid-Flight

Passengers on a Delta flight heading from Atlanta to Washington D.C. on Monday had the scariest flight of their lives.

One flyer, Logan Webb, shared a video on Twitter of the frightening incident that occurred one hour after take off. The clip shows a visible piece of metal rattling around inside the engine, which was also emitting a bright orange glow.

Passengers heard a loud noise, followed by the horrifying sight of the failing engine out the window, The Washington Post reported. Panic ensued among the 148 people on board, who began sending goodbye texts to their loved ones, fearing the plane was going to crash.

“After we heard the boom, we just saw all this smoke come up into the cabin, and that’s when we really started freaking out,” passenger Avery Porch told WMAR. “It started slowing down a bit. It was getting hot. The air cut off.”
