This Airline Has Buy-One-Get-One-Free Flights for One Day Only

We spend a lot of time waiting for the perfect price for a flight. Or, sometimes, finding the right deal then quickly trying to convince someone that this is a great time for a vacation. That might be a little easier with this awfully alluring offer Alaska Airlines has announced for Valentine’s Day.

Alaska Airlines is handling flight deals like Wendy’s handles food deals for just one day. Book a trip on February 14, and you can get a buy-one-get-one-free (BOGO) deal on flights. Seriously. Use the code “COAST2COAST,” and you’re only paying the taxes and fees on the second ticket. You can use the code over and over, too. Buy four tickets? You could get two of them for free (less taxes and fees). There’s no limit to the number of times you use the promo code as long as you use it on February 14.

If you’re buying a flight, you’ll have to travel sometime between February 14 and March 14 for the code to work. However, there are no blackout dates, so your options are open as long as you’re flying select routes out of a handful of cities. Departure cities include Baltimore/Washington DC (to Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco), Boston (to Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco), Los Angeles (to Philadelphia), Nashville (to San Francisco), New Orleans (to San Francisco), New York City (to Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Jose), Newark (to

INNOVATE, ADAPT OR DIE

OUTSIDE THE BOX BY ALEX OTTI,  Email: alex.otti@thisdaylive.com

“Every once in a while, a new technology, an old problem, and a big idea turn into an innovation” Dean Kamen

“Innovation is hard. It really is, because most people don’t get it. Remember, the automobile, the airplane, the telephone, these were all considered toys at their introduction because they had no constituency. They were too new.” Nolan Bushnell

In the 1980s and early 90s, one of the hottest and long running debates in social science circles centred on ‘technology transfer’. There were two distinct schools of thought in which one insisted that technology can be transferred and by relating with those who have improved their technological base, one could learn how to copy and apply technology developed or invented elsewhere to solve local challenges. On the other side of the divide was another set of scholars who argued that it was impossible to transfer technology. The kernel of their argument was that technology was part of the culture of a people and therefore was impossible to transfer.

Nevertheless, a third school of thought ultimately emerged which departed from the technology transfer argument but contended that the best way to acquire technology was to steal it. They cited India which they contented became a technology giant through reverse engineering and technological espionage. Since the

The Battle Lines Have Been Drawn on the Green New Deal

“I really don’t like their policies of taking away your car, taking away your airplane flights, of ‘let’s hop a train to California,’ or ‘you’re not allowed to own cows anymore!’”

So bellowed President Donald Trump in El Paso, Texas, his first campaign-style salvo against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey’s Green New Deal resolution. There will surely be many more.

It’s worth marking the moment. Because those could be the famous last words of a one-term president, having wildly underestimated the public appetite for transformative action on the triple crises of our time: imminent ecological unraveling, gaping economic inequality (including the racial and gender wealth divide), and surging white supremacy.

Or they could be the epitaph for a habitable climate, with Trump’s lies and scare tactics succeeding in trampling this desperately needed framework. That could either help win him re-election, or land us with a timid Democrat in the White House with neither the courage nor the democratic mandate for this kind of deep change. Either scenario means blowing the handful of years left to roll out the transformations required to keep temperatures below catastrophic levels.

Back in October, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change published a landmark report informing us that global emissions need to be slashed in half in less than 12 years, a target that simply cannot be met without the world’s largest economy playing a game-changing leadership role. If there is a new administration ready to leap into that role in January 2021, meeting those targets would

Giannis Antetokounmpo makes airplane safety precautions interesting for Aegean Airlines

Giannis Antetokounmpo has the Milwaukee Bucks flying high, figuratively. Back home in Greece, he’s ensuring when his fans fly, literally, they’ll be doing so safely.

The fifth-year player is averaging 27.1 points per game for the league-leading Bucks (42-14) and will serve as a team captain at the All-Star game this weekend.

If you can’t get enough of him, fly Aegean Airlines where the Athens, Greece, native will take you through the safety precautions that are usually so drably presented. The largest Greek airline released the video Tuesday.

Antetokounmpo fastens a seatbelt being used in a game of tug-of-war, models how to use an oxygen mask while seated with women doing hand embroidery and showcases the components of a lifejacket in front of a beautiful backdrop.

And, of course, he’s reminded to turn his device to airplane mode.

Even if we know all the precautions by heart, it’s worth a watch for Giannis.

Valentine’s Daze: What to do if … You’re hopelessly in love • Long Beach Post

Previously: New Couple… Are We A Couple?

SCENARIO TWO: YOU’RE WITH THE ONE.

After nearly 10 years of singleness, I finally met my Valentine. Not yet a year into dating, he popped the question. We opted for a simple ceremony on the beach—site of our first date—attended by a few close friends and family. The groom wore board shorts; the bride, flip flops.

In exchange for a traditional honeymoon, I suggested we take a mini-honeymoon, once a month, for forever. He agreed and we planned the first six months. This month, my hubby, who has proven to be the romantic one, is planning our 17th honeymoon: an overnight, six-mile backpacking hike into the nearby mountains, (please, let it snow!) Since our honeymoon will be the weekend after Valentine’s Day, I volunteered to plan our Valentine’s celebration.

Our city offers lots of romantic options. I could quickly and easily opt for a cozy cocktail overlooking Pine Avenue at Bo-beau kitchen and rooftap, the neighborhood romance of Cafe Piccolo or take in the gorgeous view of downtown Long Beach from the patio of the Maya Hotel’s Fuego.

My husband would be fine with any of them. But romance for me is taking into account my man’s favorite foods, hobbies, places he wants to visit, things he wants to experience and setting up a moment for him and experiencing it with him. He has a wide variety of interests (gardening, beekeeping, hiking, woodworking…) and has an abiding fascination of the ocean, he’s a recently retired county
