ALBANY, GA (WALB) –
Proponents of flying large model airplanes in city parks skies took a hit Monday.
The City Advisory Committee decided to reduce the allowable size of model airplanes cleared to fly in the air to just two pounds.
While some people use them for recreational activity, there were a number of concerns raised including noise and privacy violations cited in Hilsman Park.
“The planes that have been flown out there would not be acceptable under the recommendation that’s being put forth to the commission,” said City Manager Wes Smith. “We will also be looking at the other parks to make sure that if there are others that are [of] appropriate size, they will be listed as well.”
City Manager Wes Smith says the group adopted their plan from the Academy of Model Aeronautics Safety codes.
